WIREX Update

You no doubt have heard about WIREX (Wisconsin Real Estate Exchange) from various sources. So, what is WIREX and what does it mean to me?  WIREX is a joint venture to share MLS Content between Metro MLS, South Central MLS (Madison area) and Northeast MLS (Fox Valley area).  It will provide members in each of the MLSs access to data in all three MLSs.

Our technical partner is currently wrapping-up the data mapping and first production loads for the fields of information combined from the three MLSs. The MLSs are busy verifying the scope and quality of the data in the new WIREX database. This quality verification process is critical to make sure that it has been accurately mapped and converted and is being updated.

Concurrently, each of the three MLSs is working closely with their system vendor to bring the combined WIREX data back into the local system. The goal is to bring all of the active listings and the most current three years of off-market listings back into each local MLS system and make them available to MLS Participants and Subscribers.  The current target date for the MLSs to make the combined listings available via their three local MLS systems is late 2008.

The WIREX project will make the combined data (including off market listings, images, documents and tax records, etc.) available to you through flexMLS for use in your business.  There also will be the offer of cooperation and compensation across the MLSs.

Participating Brokers will also see new IDX options for the display of the combined data.  Information about WIREX IDX will be distributed once the databases are available.  Metro MLS will continue to offer the current IDX options which display the active listing information of participants in the Metro MLS system.  All access to the WIREX databases will be via the RETS (Real Estate Transaction Standard) interface which is becoming the industry standard.

Watch for more information as this project moves forward.  Your comments and questions are welcome!
