WIREX – January 20, 2009
WIREX (Wisconsin Real Estate Exchange) was conceived back in 2006 by the Metro MLS, South Central MLS (Madison) and the Northeast MLS (Appleton – Green Bay). The idea behind WIREX was to easily share MLS data from various MLS system to all members. With the data sharing it would also include an offer of compensation and, of course, cooperation with other participating MLS brokers. Although the concepts sounded easy, meshing all the data together has been a longer than anticipated project. But now, we are ready to release our results.
What does that mean? On January 20th when you log into the flexMLS system and go to many of the items under the Search tab, you will have the options to search our flexMLS system or click on WIREX and search the WIREX data base. If you highlight only the WIREX data base option you will be searching data from South Central and Northeast. If you highlight both the Metro MLS and WIREX options, then you will be searching data from all three systems – Metro, South Central and Northeast.
Things you should know. Initially, the WIREX data base will be updated daily. Whereas the Metro MLS has seven categories of properties, the WIREX data base has only five - single family, condominium, multi family, vacant land and commercial – multi family includes two family listings and commercial includes business opportunity listings. The reports for the listings from the South Central and Northeast MLS may have missing information because that information does not exist in their data bases. For example, there are no coordinates for any listings outside the Metro MLS; under single family information for “Partial Exterior” and many of our “Architecture Types” and “Documents On File” are not available options in the South Central or Northeast MLSs. Other than some of the data/information differences, you will be able to include WIREX listings in your client/customer contact management, CMA’s and saved searches.
This is only the beginning for WIREX and in the future we will include other Wisconsin MLSs.
